Ah but in the olden days bits of saints were given away by the Vatican willy
nilly. It's a bit like going back home to visit the folks - your mum is
constantly trying to ply you with food "take some soup you need soup - do
you have enough fruit you need fruit - I've made you up a wee bag with some
bits and pieces..."
Back in the old days monks and priests would be trying to leave the Vatican
and the pope would be saying "Take some St Peter - a nice thigh bone - it's
good for you. Take one - we've got tons of them. Perhaps a piece of St Paul.
Bit of skull? Funny bone? No? Well at least have a bit of St Valentines
ribcage - I don't want you going back home and complaining that I never give
you anything. Go on there put it in your bag it's only a couple of ribs...
goan goan goan goan goan...."
So basically there are bits of saints scattered all over Europe.
It's another fascinating historical fact here on USF.
